Futureware is Invited to Present at SMPTE-NY New York – November 15, 2003 — Futureware presents an overview paper, "Digital Television Format Conversion", in response to an invitation proffered by SMPTE, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Experts. Futureware thanks SMPTE, the widely known standards organization for television and motion pictures, for the opportunity to compare and contrast its format conversion products with the techniques used by other vendors. The presentation was made by Mitchell Talisman, Futureware's Chief Technical Officer. "I chose a pyramid as the metaphor for illustrative purposes. Each face of the pyramid represents one of the pressing problems of format conversion: spatial, temporal or interlace. The list of techniques applicable to each problem is described and rated, and I am happy to say that our Statistical Prediction method is the most successful, both in compelling clarity of rendered video and in relative cost to other high-end conversion techniques." The text and recorded audio for this presentation has been made available in PowerPoint format at Futureware's site, www.futureware.com/presentation/smpte.zip. The core
technology derives a statistical model of presented video from which it develops
the desired format. This technique not only preserves the detail of the
transformed video but smoothly converts between frame rates without
objectionable motion artifacts. Futureware’s
patent suite covers this “Markov-predictive” statistical model and develops
a new Human Visual Model. Founded in 1987, Futureware remains at the forefront of digital video technology. From its early work with IBM and Intel developing the original Indeo codec suite to its current release of next-generation broadcast equipment, Futureware remains committed to releasing highest quality video-based products to its customer base. ######### Futureware

Futureware Announces On-Line Produce Demonstration Format Conversion for Broadcasters New York – August 18, 2003 — Futureware unveiled a new on-line demonstration of its new products under manufacture. Dr. Raymond Westwater, Chief Scientist, said: “The final definition and performance improvement of our Format Conversion algorithm has enabled us to present an unbiased conversion demonstration to the engineering public. Now any engineer can convert the SMPTE standard video sequences from either PAL or NTSC format to any preferred format, and observe the result on their PC.” Futureware’s format conversion product supports HD upconversion, downconversion, and frame rate conversion in a single rack-mount unit. Also offered is a continuous subjective quality monitor, which relieves technicians of the burden of visually monitoring the compression subsystem performance. The final product of the suite is a time-compressing recorder which inserts commercial minutes without editing content. “Our goal is to develop usable products designed by and for broadcast engineers,” said Joanne Witt, Marketing Vice President. Through extensive market research and usability tests, Futureware will bring products to the market designed to work in “real-world” studios. The core
